The Tryon Garden Club is celebrating a massive milestone this year, as the club celebrates its 90th birthday. On Wednesday, the club kicked off its yearlong commemoration of the anniversary with a special reception and program at the Lanier Library. Guests were invited to enjoy some cake and other refreshments, while browsing artifacts from the club’s historic archives on display inside the library. In addition, local historian Mike McCue gave a presentation on Donald Culross Peattie, a famous naturalist whose encouragement led to the Tryon Garden Club acquiring and saving Pearson’s Falls in 1931. Several club members who attended Wednesday’s program include, from left, Jerry and Joy Soderquist, Linda Eiserloh, Denise Barthold, Donna Southworth, Jack Carlock and Jane Darby.
