Late rallies push Polk Middle past Madison Middle

Polk County Middle twice rallied from deficits Thursday, exploding for five runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-5 victory over Madison Middle in Blue Ridge Conference baseball action at Polk County Recreation Complex.
The Wolverines improved to 2-2 with the win.
A three-run fourth inning gave Polk Middle a 3-2 lead, but Madison answered with three runs in the top of the fifth to grab a 5-3 edge.
Polk Middle loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth, with Jackson Beiler then singling to drive home one run. Lawson Carter followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.
With two outs, Collier Foster drew a walk to bring home another run and Wyatt Cooley followed with a single to drive in two runs and give the Wolverines an 8-5 lead.
Polk Middle then sealed the win in the sixth as the Wolverines drew five walks to score a pair of runs.
The Wolverines scored their first three runs of the game in the fourth inning as Coble Cameron singled, stole second, then moved to third as Beiler reached on an error. Angus Weaver drilled a two-out double to drive home both runs, and Foster followed with a single to plate Weaver.
Beiler earned the win, allowing six hits and striking out three in five innings. Chan Barber pitched two innings of hitless relief, striking out four, to help wrap up the victory.
Beiler was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Polk’s offense, with Weaver going 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Foster and Cooley each had one hit and two RBIs.
Polk Middle continued its homestand on Monday, hosting Asheville Christian Academy.
