COLUMBUS — Contractors for the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s project to make new ramps from I-26 to U.S. 74 are once again closing a connector, until April 6.
Firm Vecellio and Grogan has closed the small connector to U.S. 74 East, with the expected opening date of April 6, according to NCDOT officials.
The closure is the same that occurred in January, and affects traffic from I-26 West accessing U.S. 74 East. The work will remove the existing guardrail and complete embankment, with construction scheduled to be complete by April 6.
I-26 westbound traffic will be able to re-enter the interstate from the normal road off the roundabout.
Traffic on the detour will be routed through Columbus.
Motorists should take Exit 67 and enter the roundabout and take the first right onto Highway 108/West Mills Street. From there, traffic can follow Highway 108 through Columbus to the next interchange with U.S. 74.
NCDOT reminds motorists to slow down in work zones and obey all posted traffic signs.
