Days like Thursday will lead to better things down the road for Polk County Middle’s girls soccer team.
The young Wolverines held their own with Rugby for much of the match, but surrendered a pair of late goals en route to a 3-0 loss in Blue Ridge Conference action at Polk Middle.
Polk Middle dropped to 1-2 with the loss in its first home match of the season. Rugby improved to 1-0 in its season opener.
“We’ve got a super young team,” said Polk Middle head coach Travis Aldred. “We had just four returning players and only one starter. We’ve got a lot of sixth graders and a lot of seventh graders.
“We’ve just got to keep working on the small things to get better throughout the year.”
Polk County Middle is slated to host Apple Valley on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
