Walk-Out

Thank you for the coverage in the Bulletin on Feb. 21 of the Polk County High School “Walk-Out.”
I was present at this meaningful event. I was impressed with how well each student spoke and with how well this walk-out was organized.
Besides memorializing the 17 students and teachers who were murdered in Florida, our students spoke about the need to improve the safety in our local schools and to improve gun control in our country.
I’m reminded of a quote I heard from the radio last week: “The federal government doesn’t allow private citizens to purchase ground-to-air missiles, why would they allow private citizens to purchase assault weapons?”
It is time we remove assault weapons from our society. Other proposals from our elected officials are simply putting a band-aid on this national problem.
