Lucy Lee King, 100, of Tryon, died Saturday, Feb.10, 2018, in White Oak Manor of Tryon.
She was the daughter of the late Mount and Ida Love King. Born in Polk County she attended school in Tryon. She was the widow of James H. King Jr., who passed away July 3, 1969, in Pittsburgh. Mrs. King was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She was a member of Garrison Chapel Baptist Church, where she joined in 1927. While in Pittsburgh, she was a member of Rodman St. Baptist Church, where she served as president of the Willing Workers Club and sang in the choir. At Garrison Chapel, she was a member of the evangelic choir and served as secretary.
Mrs. King was always willing to serve in any service as she was needed. One of her greatest joys was when she was the chairperson for the first black school reunion in Tryon, which was very successful for four years.
She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories her loving nieces and nephews, Scotland C. Payne (Sharon), Connie Massey (Kevin), Raymond Allen (Evelyn), Larry King, Sharon King, Katie King, Bradley King, Tina Patterson, Mary L. Dickerson, Ester L. Sanders, Paul Ledbetter, Ruth L. Freeman, Naomi Landrum; and a devoted and loving sister-in -law, Lummie King.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, in Garrison Chapel Baptist Church, Tryon, with the Rev. Eric Sanders and the Rev. Earl N. Alexander officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Tryon, NC.
