New programs at Polk County Recreation

Polk County Recreation is hosting programs for fitness and yoga. On Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. REFIT ® is at Stearns Gym for all ages and the program is free.

On Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. Stearns Gym hosts yoga. The cost is $50 for a six-week session and new students can try one class for free. Call Elaina Prevett to register at 828-894-5176.

Polk County Recreation welcomes homeschoolers

The Polk County Recreation Department has been having meet-ups with homeschoolers for free at Stearns Gym for exercise and games. They meet Tuesdays from 1-3 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon. Feb. 13, 15, 20 and 22 will be soccer and Feb. 27, March 1, March 6 and March 8 will be basketball and volleyball.

Polk appoints three to Columbus Fire Tax District

The Polk County Board of Commissioners appointed three people to the Columbus Fire Tax District during its Monday, Feb. 5 meeting. There were three applicants to fill three vacancies on the board. Commissioners appointed Rickie McFalls, Ronald Smith and James Stott to the board.

Polk appoints two to planning board

The Polk County Board of Commissioners appointed two volunteers to its planning board during its Feb. 5 meeting. Commissioners appointed Jeffrey Budai and Libby Morris to the board. There are still two vacancies, with the board scheduled to appoint two of four applicants at its next meeting, scheduled for Feb. 19.
