Polk wrestlers set to begin action at 1A West Regional

A dozen Polk County wrestlers will begin competition Friday in the 1A West Regional tournament at Avery High School in Newland.

More than 200 wrestlers are slated to compete in the two-day event, which will begin Friday at 2 p.m. Competition continues on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state 1A tournament, set for Saturday, Feb. 3 in Greensboro.

Polk County wrestlers scheduled to take part in the regional tournament include:

Preston Burnett, Dillon Knighton, Evan Miller, Devin Panchyshyn, Abdias Ramirez, Chris Rickman, Hayden Shumate, James Smith, Trey Thompson, Triston Watkins, Brennan Worthington and Mitchell Yoder.
