Volunteers needed for Meals on Wheels

COLUMBUS – If you have a reliable vehicle, a little extra time and a heart for giving, Meals on Wheels needs you in Polk County.
Meals are prepared at the Meeting Place in Columbus, packed and delivered to approximately 100 individuals in need.
Meals are delivered Monday-Friday.
Polk County Government said the task is simple. Volunteers pick up the prepared meals at the Meeting Place in Columbus, Green Creek or Saluda and deliver them to recipients on a given route. Volunteers then return the empty containers to the site where they picked them up.
The commitment is time and travel expense, but the benefits are priceless, according to Polk County officials, as drivers get to check in on some of Polk County’s most endearing and interesting people, making a difference in people’s lives by allowing them to be independent and remain in their homes as long as possible.
Anyone with extra time who would be interested in volunteering for Meals on Wheels is urged to call Pam Doty, Meeting Place director, at 828-894-0001.
