Mel Nolt was spotted early Wednesday morning, Jan. 17, shoveling snow off the sidewalk in front of Foothills Amish Furniture in downtown Landrum. A recent Florida transplant, Nolt said he was told there might be one snowstorm a season. “This makes two,” he said, with a smile. Polk and Spartanburg County schools were closed Wednesday, with the high for the day expected to peak at 29 degrees.
