Polk County Middle School Media Coordinator Laura Smith received a $1,000 Bright Ideas Grant from Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation.
Smith plans to use the grant to purchase resources for Makerspaces, an area where students can collaborate, create and implement effective ideas while utilizing multiple intelligences.
Students will demonstrate their inventiveness and originality in their ideas in a teamwork model – all lifelong skills that will prepare them for real-world challenges.
While Smith will continue to work with grade levels to plan units of instruction that will use Makerspaces, students will also be allowed to use the area during free time in order to foster imagination and creativity and reinforce problem solving skills.
