Tryon Concert Association presents Elizabeth Child
On Friday, Nov. 17, Elizabeth Child will present “Spanish Music with a French Twist,” an hour of piano music in the first TGIF concert of the season. Works of Debussy, Albéniz, and Mompou will be featured at the concert, which takes place at 6 p.m. at Tryon Fine Arts Center.
Child made her piano debut at the age of 10; by age 12 she played in a televised orchestral concert. Her Carnegie Hall debut received a favorable review by Will Crutchfield of The New York Times, and she was the featured soloist in the PBS special “How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall?,” an intimate portrait of a young artist preparing for her professional debut.
A graduate of the Juilliard School of Music in New York where she earned a doctorate in piano performance, Child also holds a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in music from Converse College. She is also well known for her work in the Tryon community, serving with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Tryon Fine Arts Center, and the Tryon Concert Association.
Child has a style characterized by dramatic intensity and the ability to communicate intimately through music. She has appeared with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center under Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, the Brevard and Interlochen summer festivals, and the symphonies of Columbus, Georgia, and Spartanburg, S.C. Tryon residents have heard her exquisite playing at Holy Cross Episcopal Church during Lent.
TGIF tickets can be purchased online at tryonconcerts.org or at the TFAC box office.
