Joan Schoeppner

Joan Lucille Hane Schoeppner, 91, of Columbus, N.C., died, Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William Orlando and Mabel Heyl Hane. Joan was the widow of the late Earl Schoeppner who passed away in 2016. Joan graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene. She enjoyed cooking and sewing, and she will be remembered as an excellent caregiver. Joan was a resident of Ridgerest Assisted Living in Columbus, N.C. for approximately four years. She loved her church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, N.C. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are four children, Susan (Bob) Esty of Maryland, Stephen (Lori) Schoeppner of Ohio, Mark (Colleen) Schoeppner of California, and Barbra (Jim) Gerhard of Columbus, N.C. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Andrews in 2010, and a brother, Robert Hane.

A private memorial service will be held at Ridgerest Assisted Living, Columbus, N.C., at a later date.

Interment of Earl and Joan Schoeppner will be held in Columbus, Ohio.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 North Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309, in memory of her daughter, Karen Andrews.
