Libbie Johnson, publisher of the online newsletter, This Week in Tryon Horse Country, spoke at the Lanier Library on Sept. 14. Johnson, who served as Polk County’s Economic Tourism Development Director in 2011, discussed what was in the future for Polk County. The topics she mentioned included the financial impact of the horse industry and the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), financial and other effects of the World Equestrian Games, NC State University considering a satellite presence in Polk County and the equine education curriculum at Isothermal Community College. She also expressed concern as to how these changes would affect the cost of land and keeping land available for equine recreation. Watch the Bulletin for upcoming articles on these topics.
