Building a foundation for Stony Knoll CME Church

It has taken a while to get started, but construction on an addition and renovations to the historic 1945 Stony Knoll CME Church in Mill Spring has finally begun. Last Wednesday, the foundation for the approximately 900 sq. ft. addition, which will contain a vestibule, bathrooms and a pastor’s study, was poured. Rev. Johnny Searight, pastor of Piney Ridge CME Church in Union Mills, far right, helped to spearhead the project in the early spring of 2015, but raising the necessary funds has taken longer than anticipated, he said. Once the concrete is finished, he estimates the remainder of the project will run $25,000, and it includes upgrades to the original church in addition to the construction of the addition. Donations from the community are welcomed and appreciated, he said. For more information call 704-472-7962 or johnnysearight@yahoo.com. (Photos by Claire Sachse)
