COLUMBUS – The Polk County Board of Commissioners accepted a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Inc. for the EMS to purchase a 2017 Yamaha SX 4X4 XC Mule.

Commissioners met May 15 and heard from EMS director Michael Crater about the grant.

Crater said the grant is for $8,992 to purchase the mule and a trailer was provided to transport the vehicle by FETA (Foothills Equestrian Trails Association).

Crater also said the mule will be purchased from the Yamaha dealership in Hendersonville.

A mule, or Multi-Use Light Equipment, is a lightweight utility task vehicle.
