Mark McVey, star of Broadway’s “Les Miserables,” led a master class with 32 area students before his Main Stage performance at Tryon Fine Arts Center. Students participated in breathing exercises and an in-depth question and answer session with the star.
Chapman High School sophomore Jacob White, homeschooler Michaela Siefert, and Converse College junior Kate Riedy sang musical theater selections for the group, and Mr. McVey offered pointers, and discussed how to critique fellow performers kindly and effectively.
“It’s important that we learn how to relate to each other and how to critique each other in a helpful way,” said Mr. McVey, a lesson the students took to heart.
