Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry (Outreach) has received a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation to hire two local high school students as interns for the summer.

“We’re very grateful to the Community Foundation for providing the funding to help us hire interns again this year,” said George Alley, Outreach’s executive director. “We believe that the student interns will gain valuable work experience and have the chance to help our neighbors in need.”

“Both of the interns will spend the morning outside, working together to help develop Outreach’s Garden of Hope,” said Alley.  “During the afternoon, one intern will help with client services and annual school supply distribution, while the other will perform general maintenance activities such as mowing, repairs and other basic tasks related to facilities upkeep.”

The internships will begin on June 19 and will continue through August 11. In order to comply with the grant requirements, students must be enrolled in high school or a similar home-school program at the time of the start of the internship. Students must also be at least 16 years old and reside in Polk County or Landrum (zip code 29356).

Outreach is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has served Polk County residents in need for 25 years.
