Green Creek Hounds is offering a Hunt Clinic May 20, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and May 21 at 8:30 a.m., open to the riding community, with clinician Erin Gambrell. Registration is required. The clinic will take place at Harmony Training Center, 1896 E. Green Creek Drive in Tryon.
Day one will be group sessions, divided by ability level. Lunch break will be provided by Green Creek Hounds.
Day two will be a real hunt trail ride with Green Creek Hounds at 8:30 a.m.
This is a hands on introduction to foxhunting in the safe hands of a qualified instructors. You will learn hunt etiquette, practice riding skills needed in the hunt field from riding in a group at various speeds, to jumping.
Riders will be divided into groups according to ability. There will be a group that wants to learn the basics and be able to Hilltop (walk, trot, some canter, no jumping); a similar group, Second Flight, with some small jumps; and a more advanced group, First Flight, who can travel at speed and jump.
It will be a busy, fun-filled event. It’s a great way to learn about foxhunting, and accustom yourself or a horse to the sport. It is also a wonderful opportunity to increase your riding skills outside of a ring. Terrain includes hills, woods, meadows and some creek crossings.
This is not a “learn to ride” clinic. Established two to three feet jumping horse to ride in the advanced group. There is a member and non-member fee for this event.
You must have your own horse, ASTM Helmet, signed releases, and Negative Coggins required. Registration questions, email greencreekhoundscm@gmail.com.
