Grand opening planned for Saturday, March 25
COLUMBUS – Rev. Shane Jackson and his family are opening a new Christian book and supply store in Columbus at 222 E. Mills St. next to The Brick Pizzeria called Christian Bookshop.
Jackson is the pastor for Landrum Independent Baptist Church at 200 E. Blue Ridge St. in Landrum. He and his family live in Tryon and he has been the pastor of the Landrum Independent Baptist Church for 19 years.
He said Dr. Bob Doom and his wife Sheila started the bookshop in Scotland 53 years ago before relocating to Asheville 40 years ago. The Dooms sold the business to Jackson and his family, who are working on relocating it to Columbus.
“I think this is the only Christian bookshop in the Polk, Rutherford and Henderson County area,” Jackson said. “The reason why we call it a Christian bookshop is because, in Scotland, you don’t call it a book store. You call it a shop.”
The bookshop offers everything from Bibles to audiobooks, Sunday school materials, gifts and cards. Special items like camouflage Bible covers, waterproof Bibles and golf balls with Christian-themed designs are also available. The bookshop even has a replica of the King James Bible first printed in 1611 at the checkout counter.
“We want to work closely with the churches in the area to provide them what they need,” Jackson explained. “When I first started as a pastor, I had to order my Bible study materials from England myself.”
The shop plans to hold a grand opening on March 25 with live music and door prizes. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Jackson plans to add a Keurig coffee bar to the shop in the future. A website is being developed where people can order materials online. Phone orders can be placed by calling either 828-253-8358 or 828-802-1113.
“With the Lord’s help, we want to provide Biblical, fundamental, inspirational and educational materials, supplies, new books as well as a large selection of wonderful used books for the studious,” Jackson said. “Our desire is to provide a Christian environment where Bible-believing Christians can obtain all they would need to assist them and their churches in their walk with the Lord.”
