Unity in the Community holds forum, dinner
The Unity in the Community will be hosting an educational forum and dinner on Feb. 18. The purpose of the Empowerment through Education project is to engage the community about the importance of education, ways to enhance education, and information about post-secondary education.
The forum will also introduce new programs that will be available to the citizens of Polk and Landrum areas and will be held at 4 p.m. at the Green Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Cobb Family Life Center, 2382 Coxe Rd. in Tryon.
The keynote speakers will be Joshua Twitty, a 2008 graduate of Polk County High School, and Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene. This forum will give Polk County residents the opportunity to meet-and-greet, ask questions, and engage in friendly conversation, all about education.
The new workshops and programs, technology for seniors, tutoring and college prep, will also be discussed at the forum. The technology for seniors will focus on things such as basic fundamentals and use of computers, setting up an email address, setting up Facebook accounts, and making the best of smartphones.
Dinner will be served and is free to the public. The project is sponsored by the Unity in the Community organization and funded by a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation Unrestricted Grant Fund for operating expenses and programs.
