Polk Sheriff’s Office arrests two for opiates and cocaine

TRYON – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Tryon Police Department, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security investigators arrested two local men on Wednesday, Feb. 1 on charges related to opiates and cocaine, including trafficking cocaine, according to the sheriff’s office.

Antoine Kendrick Counts, 30, of 612 North Shamrock Ave., Landrum, S.C. was arrested and charged with five counts of maintaining a motor vehicle to keep a controlled substance, nine counts 

of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, three counts of conspiracy to sell cocaine, one count of conspiracy to sell a schedule II controlled substance and three counts of trafficking cocaine, according to sheriff reports.

Reggie Jamont Hannon, 34, of 912 E. Howard St., Tryon, was arrested and charged with nine counts of conspiracy to traffic cocaine, eight counts of trafficking cocaine, three counts of sell and deliver cocaine, two counts of conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, one count of sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance and two counts of conspiracy to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, according to sheriff reports.

Capt. Lowell Griffin of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation targeted an operation in the Tryon area of Polk County that involved the sales of opiates and cocaine. Opiates are defined as drugs with morphine-like effects, derived from opium with the most common use being painkillers.

Counts was still being held as of Thursday, Feb. 2 at the Polk County Jail under a $273,000 secured bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hannon was still being held at the Polk County Jail as of Thursday, Feb. 2 under a $405,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

Griffin said both Counts and Hannon have long criminal histories.

Griffin also said the investigation is ongoing and further charges and/or arrests remain possible.
