Chesnee edges LHS wrestlers; Cardinals top CCES

2016 AA state runner-up Wrenn Pierce got Landrum on the scoreboard, when he pinned his Chesnee opponent at 138 pounds, as the Cardinals hosted a region quad wrestling meet featuring Chesnee, St. Joseph’s and Christ Church Episcopal on Thursday, Jan. 5.
Even with a flurry of wins that pulled the Cardinals to within a point of Chesnee, the Eagles got a forfeit win at 106, to pull out a 42-35 win.
Against CCE, the Cardinals got pins by Pierce and Devon Keltner to top Christ Church, 12-6, in a limited meet.
Other Cardinal winners against Chesnee included Zach Horton (pin), Bryson Owens (13-7 decision), Josh Springfield (pin at 160), Paul Zimmerman (pin at 195), Jon Zimmerman (pin at 225). Landrum also got six points each on pins at 170 and 285.
Each team wrestled two opponents.
Last Friday’s scheduled meet against East Henderson and Tuscola was postponed due to the snowstorm.
The Cardinals next take on Carolina and Palmetto on Thursday, Jan. 12 at Carolina, with action set to begin at 6 p.m. The next (and final) home meet is Tuesday, Jan. 24, when the Cardinals host Chapman and Whitmire. Scheduled starting time is 6 p.m.
