House catches fire on Oak Grove Rd. on Christmas day

LANDRUM– Local firefighters responded to a house fire on Christmas Day along Oak Grove Road just outside Landrum.
No one was at home at the time of the fire. There were five adults and three children living at the home, according to the American Red Cross.
The Glassy Mountain Fire Department responded as well as four other departments, including departments from Landrum, Tryon, Campobello and Gowensville.
The family was at a Christmas event at the time of the fire, which apparently started on the backside of the house. Neighbors called 911 after noticing the fire.
Firefighters reported flames coming from the backside of the house when they arrived. The fire was contained to the family room, but there was there was significant damage to the backside of the house.
The cause of the fire appears to be electrical, according to reports from firefighters.
The American Red Cross is helping the family with temporary housing and other necessities.
