A Polk County deputy is on paid administrative leave after a woman he was in a relationship with used his service weapon to take her own life.

The deputy is not being named, as the district attorney’s office decided on Thursday, Oct. 27 not to file any charges against him.

Polk County Capt. Lowell Griffin said the deputy was placed on leave immediately after the incident, which occurred in Henderson County on Oct. 15 at a home at Acton Briar Place. Polk County did not participate in any way in the investigation, Griffin said. Griffin said Henderson County did confirm the weapon used belonged to Polk County.
