“If you can believe it, you can achieve it,” might be this week’s challenge for Landrum’s varsity football team, when the Cardinals visit Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville this evening.

The Cardinals, 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the region, after their come-from-behind 21-14 win over St. Joseph’s Catholic, are a good football team, whose players need to know how good they are together.

“Our kids need to believe they can compete against them,” Landrum head coach Jason Farmer explained about their rivals, Christ Church’s Cavaliers. “We have a different team this year,” he continued.

This year’s Cardinals are different. They play hard, and keep playing hard, for 48 minutes. Their execution has also improved.

Farmer noted that the Cavaliers (4-3 overall, and 1-0 in the Cardinals’ region) have a very good linebacker. It’s obvious that Christ Church can score points, and that Landrum’s defense has been stingy, and has held opponents in many tough situations. Notable last week was the Cardinals’ Marcus Quinn, who led the way on many tackles. Johnny Martinez (#25) has been another defender responsible for stopping opponents in or near their tracks.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to go down there and beat them,” Farmer said this evening’s contest.

Opening kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
