School system to begin search for new athletic director at Polk County High School
COLUMBUS – The Polk County School Board approved a job description for a part-time athletic director position at Polk County High School during their Oct. 10 meeting.
The search for a new athletic director will begin and the school system will be advertising the vacancy within the next week, according to Superintendent Aaron Greene.
This is a result of Brandon Schweitzer, former athletic director, being promoted to high school principal following the announcement of Mary Feagan’s retirement earlier this school year.
Schweitzer joined PCHS in 2007 first as a social studies teacher before transitioning into the position of assistant principal alongside Feagan in 2011.
According to Greene, the school system is looking for someone who is rooted in the local sports community and can be responsive to athletes and coaches as well as parents.
Greene added that a re-evaluation would be done, if necessary, to upgrade the position to full time or absorb back into administration at the end of the school year. He said this is because the responsibilities of the athletic director increase each year.
Additionally, the school board approved the job descriptions for substitute teacher and assistant substitute teacher during their Oct. 10 meeting.
