Archery is a great activity for anyone from age 10 to 100 and now you can try it for free. Because of a generous grant from the Polk County Community Foundation, the Green Creek Community Center was able to purchase enough equipment and coaching to offer free archery days to the public.
The Green Creek Archery Club will be hosting three events along with the Community Center and will provide instruction and coaching for anyone who would like to learn to shoot or shoot better. Coaching will be provided by USA Archery Level 4 coach, Jim Vennera and USA Level 2 coach, Steve Burney.
Two of the events are already scheduled, one on Saturday, Oct. 22 and the other on Saturday, Nov. 12. The events will be held in the gym at the Green Creek Community Center, 534 Coxe Rd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to stay for the entire time or drop in, as you like.
The Green Creek Archery Cub was founded in 2012 and in the time since, has grown to be one of the best archery facilities in the Southeast. There is a 23 lane indoor range and a 44 lane outdoor range which have hosted several NC State Championships attended by archers coming from not only North Carolina, but from South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and Ohio.
With instruction from Coach Vennera, several club members have gone from never holding a bow to earning multiple state championships, and he has students who travel from as far as seven hours away to learn from him. If you are able to hold a bow, Coach Vennera can show you how to shoot it.
