Lewis Phillips

Lewis Phillips, 85, of Mill Spring, N.C. passed away Monday evening, October 3, 2016 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, S.C.
Born in Polk County, N.C., he was the son of the late Luther and Pearl Adair Phillips and husband of the late Katie Foster Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He enjoyed yardwork, being outdoors, Bluegrass Gospel Music and was a people person. Mr. Phillips was a member of Pea Ridge Baptist Church. Above all, he loved his family with all his heart.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two-step children, Dorothy Chumley and Larry Dean Blackwell.
Surviving is his wife, Virginia “Kitty” Phillips; one son, Jeffery Lynn Phillips (Terri) of Madisonville, Tenn.; five step-daughters, Martha Blackwell Smith (Tom) of Pittsboro, N.C., Darlene Owensby of Landrum, S.C., Gail Fuentes (Charlie) of Campobello, S.C., Wanda Thompson (Mike) of Landrum, S.C. and Amanda Greene (Dennis) of Mill Spring; a step son, Danny Owensby of Tryon, N.C.; three sisters, Myrtle Smith of Greenville, S.C., Ethel Trotter of Dallas, N.C. and Kathleen Tucker of Mill Spring, N.C.; one brother, Glen Phillips (Lillian) of Rutherfordton, N.C. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 in Pea Ridge Baptist Church, Mill Spring, N.C. with Rev. Joshua Lathan and Rev. David Bame officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 1-2:15 p.m. at the church.
