James “Duke” Fisher

James Caldwell “Duke” Fisher of Mauldin, S.C. passed away Tuesday morning, October 4, 2015 in Magnolia Place of Greenville.
Born in Tryon, N.C. on December 26, 1942, he was the son of the late James Kitchen Fisher and Beulah Dalton Fisher. Mr. Fisher was a graduate of Tryon High School and went on to play basketball for UNC Chapel Hill as a freshman and was named “Freshman of the Year.” He then attended Gardner Webb and Mars Hill College where he graduated. He went on to receive his MED from Clemson University.
Mr. Fisher was a devoted and beloved educator and coach in both North and South Carolina for over 30 years and retired from Mauldin High School where he spent most of his years and was recognized as Coach of the Year and North/South All-Star Coach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Dalton Fisher.
Surviving are three daughters, Shannon F. Murphy (Terry) of Prosperity, S.C., Lauren F. Dillard (Jeff) of Bel-Air, Md. and Jaime F. Browning (Kyle) of Simpsonville, S.C. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Mauldin First Baptist Church, Mauldin, S.C. with Rev. L.E. Williamson and Rev. Vardry A. Freeman officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
A private burial will take place at a later date in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, N.C.
