Foothills Duplicate Bridge Club update

Published 10:00 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Foothills Duplicate Bridge Club has been busy not only playing bridge with games scheduled Thursdays and Fridays each week, but the club also supports worthwhile endeavors in the community. The bridge club’s big donation this year went to Meals on Wheels, but the members support the Kiwanis pancake supper, the 4H dinner, the Methodist steak supper and others.

The club has just completed a successful fund drive of nearly $25,000 from its members. This fund drive was to benefit the Tryon Youth Center and the top priority of the club and the youth center management is to thoroughly clean the facility.

The windows have been washed by a professional window washer and a three-day cleaning has been completed by a professional cleaner. A company has been contracted to vacuum the vents. All of this will benefit the bridge group’s program and other activities held at the facility such as reunions, weddings, receptions, graduation parties, dances and birthday parties.

George Russell is a very competent director, teacher and player. He is generous and welcoming and is bringing new players from Spartanburg and Greenville. All levels are welcome to play. Contact Sally Jo Carter at 828-859-6780 if you need a partner.  Several partnerships are arranged each week.

The most limited game is on Friday morning, but often inexperienced players feel that they benefit from playing with more experienced players in the afternoons. You who are new in the community are invited to try out your local duplicate games. You’ll find friendly players.

Look for notices in the Tryon Daily Bulletin regarding lessons that George will be teaching in the fall.
