Columbus resident one of 32 arrested in Tennessee human trafficking sting

A Columbus resident was one of 32 arrested last week in a human trafficking and prostitution sting out of Knoxville, Tenn.

Prashante Bhatka, 35, of Columbus was arrested and charged with patronizing prostitution, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Knoxville Police Department conducted a three-day investigation, which included the arrests of a children’s pastor and a volunteer creative pastor, both of Tennessee.

Court records say the children’s pastor, Jason Kennedy, allegedly responded to an advertisement on Backpage.com on May 19 via text message regarding girls under the age of 18 who would be present. Kennedy allegedly negotiated a $100 fee for a half hour of sex with both females, according to Tennessee reports.

The other creative pastor, Zubin Parakh allegedly agreed to have sex with an undercover agent he believed to be 17 years old.

Tennessee agents said during the investigation more than 300 contacts were made to ads placed on the website including one agent who posed as a juvenile girl with her ad receiving more than 24 contacts.

Those arrested, including men and women face charges of either patronizing prostitution, prostitution or trafficking, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Patronizing prostitution is defined as soliciting or hiring another person with the intent that the other person engage in prostitution, or entering or remaining in a house of prostitution for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.
