Cardinals fight to the bitter end of state playoffs

It took ten innings for Chesnee to eke out a 5-4 win over Landrum’s softball team, at Chesnee, on Monday, May 9, to end the Cardinals’ spectacular (18-3) season.
At Chesnee, the Cardinals got eight hits—two each by Ciara Sikes and Alexus Atkins. Sarah Price homered, and Ellen Boatwright doubled. Starter Sydney Davis took the loss, pitching nine innings.
The Cardinals plated three in the seventh, and one in the eighth, while the hosts scored one each in the first, third, fifth, eighth and tenth.
In the double-elimination-format state playoffs, the Cardinals started by topping Saluda, 6-2, then defeating Andrew Jackson 6-2 and then 2-0, on May 4, before falling to Crescent, 3-2, on May 6.
