Airing of the Quilts to take place in Landrum July 16
Local businesses in Landrum have been asked to display handmade quilts for the annual Airing of the Quilts event to take place on July 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event celebrates Landrum’s quilting heritage and the Foothills Quilt Trail. According to Ellen Henderson, event coordinator, more than 900 visitors arrived at Elaine’s Attic last year for the event. The Carolina Shop Hop, which takes place from July 15 to 23, sponsors the event.
Polk reschedules May 16 meeting
The Polk County Board of Commissioners rescheduled its May 16 meeting to May 23. Commissioners also decided to cancel its May 16 budget workshop and will instead work on the budget on May 17 until a draft is complete. The May 23 regular meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The rescheduling was done because the Isothermal Community College (ICC) is holding its graduation on May 16.
Bryant Womack video available on Polk website
Polk County Commissioners met Monday, May 2 and watched a video about Bryant Womack, a U.S. Army Veteran from Polk County who was killed in Korea. The county’s municipal building is named after Womack as well as Fort Bragg’s Womack Army Medical Center. The video about Womack’s life and service can be found on the homepage at www.polknc.org.
Polk appoints members to volunteer boards
Polk County Commissioners appointed volunteers to the Economic and Tourism Development Commission (ETDC) and the Mill Spring Fire District Tax Commission during its Monday, May 2 meeting. Amy Norville was appointed to the ETDC and John McDowell, James Sheehan and Steve Sheehan were appointed to the Mill Spring Fire District Tax Commission.
