Polk County’s softball team enjoyed far better success against visiting Hendersonville on Tuesday, May 3, trouncing the Bearcats, 13-5, in a game called after four and one-half innings (ten-run rule). In the home second, with a 3-0 count on her, Polk’s Hayley Kropp took a pitch that seemed to miss the strike zone, but which was called strike one. Given one more opportunity, Kropp bashed a two-run homer over the left field fence. Ashley Scruggs went the distance on the mound for Polk. Polk, fighting for a berth in the state tournament, needed the win, along with, if they can, wins against Asheville and Mitchell on May 4 and 5. (Photo by Mark Schmerling)
