Polk batters hammer Mitchell in softball

Whatever Mitchell pitchers threw, Polk County batters feasted on, scoring six runs in the first, five in the second, and six more in the third, enroute to a 17-0 romp in softball, last Friday at Mitchell.
The win made the Wolverines 2-1 in the Western Highlands Conference, and 5-1 overall.
For the Polk, Autumn Owen was four-for-four, slamming two triples, with Maranda Gosnell smacking a pair of doubles. Ansley Lynch was three-for-three, with a double and three runs batted in.
Ashley Scruggs, who blanked the Mountaineers for three innings, had two hits. Haley Fowler pitched the last two frames for Polk, before the ten-run rule ended the game. Fowler and Hayley Kropp each drove in two.
On Thursday, March 17, Polk edged the visiting Asheville Trailblazers, 2-1.
On Monday, March 21, the Wolverines visited North Henderson. This Tuesday afternoon, Polk hosts WHC rival Avery County.
