Decades of progress torn down

To the editor:
North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper, a Democratic Party candidate for governor, spoke to a jam-packed noon-day group at FENCE March 4 with a stirring call to redress the terrible damage the Republican majority under Pat McCrory has done to our state.
We North Carolina residents are fools if we let the political destruction in favor of the wealthy continue in our state. I urge you to vote for first-rate Roy Cooper.
As early as July 2013, The New York Times editorial board outlined the N.C. GOP grievous actions resulting in the state’s rapid decline, the “tearing down years of progress in public education, tax policy, racial equality in the courtroom and access to the ballot.”
The Times editors said, “North Carolina was once considered a beacon of far-sightedness in the South, an exception in a region of poor education, intolerance and tightfistedness. In a few short months, Republicans have begun to dismantle a reputation that took years to build.”
If you need details, stop by the Democratic headquarters near the jail one block off the main drag (108) in Columbus and pick up documented information.
Never has your vote been more critical in county, state and national elections.
