Western Highlands Conference basketball continues in a big way for Polk’s men’s varsity team this evening, when the Wolverines host Mountain Heritage.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, Mitchell outscored Polk, 20-15 in the first quarter, and 17-7 in the second, to defeat Polk, 79-61.
Polk enters this evening’s contest at 3-4 overall, and 1-1 in WHC competition.
“We started out slow, and could never recover,” Wolverine head coach Josh McEntire observed. “We have to learn to create our own energy and intensity on the road.”
Polk’s Jamal Wheeler and Mitchell’s Max Spurling shared game-high scoring honors with 21 points apiece. Jaymes Wingo added 13 for the Wolverines, Wes Mullis 10, Daniel Painter eight, and Dillon Overholt seven.
Tonight’s contest begins after the women’s varsity game, which is set to begin at 6:30.
On Dec. 21-23, the Wolverines are scheduled to compete at Cherokee in that school’s Holiday Tournament. Polk’s first opponent is Asheville.
Next home game is Jan. 5, against WHC rival Avery.
