Doyle, Godlock headed to state X-C tourney
By Mark Schmerling
Sean Doyle and India Godlock will represent Polk County High School’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams at tomorrow’s 2A state meet at Beeson Park, Kernersville.
At the Oct. 31 regional meet at Freedom High School in Morganton, Doyle’s time of 16:55 put him just five seconds out of first place. Godlock placed third at regionals, in 19:58. Top four finishers in the region go to the state tournament.
Overall, the men finished sixth in the region, and the women ninth.
Good as that was, Coach Peoples feels the Wolverines might have performed better yet, but “the injuries really killed our chance,” he noted.
“We did well,” for the season, Peoples reported. “Considering the injuries, I thought it was an excellent season.”
He noted that Jacob Wolfe, who’d been sick early in the season, was later back at last year’s strength, which was very good, but not quite where he might have been for 2015.
One of the women was sick, and another injured.
Godlock, just a junior, and Doyle, a senior, will each compete to finish among the top seven, respectively. Those who do are named all-state runners.
