A much better football team than its 4-5 record indicates, which includes a three-point loss and two single-point defeats, Polk County’s varsity looks to this evening’s game at Owen as the most important game of the season.

As Wolverine head coach Jamie Thompson emphasizes, the next game is always the most important game. With an extra week of rest (the Wolverines most recently met—and defeated—Avery County on Oct. 16), players should be fresh, and with lots of focused practice in the past two weeks.

When Polk County's varsity football team challenges Owen at Black Mountain this evening, the Wolverines will have many options to try to turn back the Warhorses. Polk's Khiree Green (#5) is shown gaining ground in the Wolverines' 50-7 win against Madison earlier this season.

Polk is 2-2 in Western Highlands Conference play, while Owen, 1-8 overall, and 1-4 in the WHC, has struggled this season. However, the Warhorses can put points on the board, as evidenced last week. Hendersonville defeated Owen, with a 56-point explosion, but Owen put up 42.

Opening kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
