Landrum’s Cardinals expect to have their hands full when they visit Blacksburg’s Wildcats for a conference football game this evening at 7:30.
The Cardinals are 3-5 overall, and 1-3 in conference action, after losing to Chesnee last Friday.
Blacksburg has also won three games on the season, with 4 losses, but is also 1-3 in conference play. Blacksburg lost to Liberty last week. Each squad will be hungry for a win.
“They’re big. They’re athletic,” Cardinal head coach Jason Farmer said of the Wildcats. “They present some issues we should worry about.”
Blacksburg runs a wing-T offense, and boasts a quarterback who is also a fine runner.
The Wildcats come at quarterbacks and ball carriers with a large defensive line. As with the Cardinals, some of the Blacksburg linemen play on both sides of the ball.
“We’ve got to figure out how to move the ball and score some points, without turning the ball over,” Farmer pointed out, noting that in last week’s loss to Chesnee, turnovers hurt the Cardinals.
Practices this week have gone well, Farmer remarked. “I feel our kids are excited about the opportunity.”
Opening kickoff is at 7:30.
