Overcoming physical and emotional challenges, Landrum’s football team now has a winning record (3-2) after dispatching Liberty, 19-14, on Friday night, Sept. 25.
Last week’s tragic passing of assistant coach Brian Kuykendall could have shaken a less solid team, but the Cardinals overcame that. The game, played at Liberty, began at 8 p.m., rather than 7:30, in memory of Kuykendall, who passed away on Sept. 22).
“It was a good win for us, after the circumstances we went through,” remarked Cardinal head coach Jason Farmer. “It was an emotional win for us that meant a lot to the team, but more importantly, it gave us a winning record through the first half of the season.” It was Landrum’s first conference win of the season; they are 1-1 in the conference.
“Now, we must get ready for a very good Powdersville team whom the Cardinals will meet at Powdersville this Friday (Oct. 2).”
Cardinal touchdowns came on two Peyton Kemmerlin passes — one to Anthony Anderson, the other to Jackson Kelly. Anderson also ran for a touchdown.
