Robert Earl Ormand, Sr.

Robert Earl Ormand, Sr., 86, of Columbus passed away on Sept. 23, 2015. He was the son of the late James Franklin and Elizabeth Page Ormand. He was the widower of Elizabeth Wright Ormand to whom he was married for 56 years.
He served in the US Army and retired after 27 years from Bost Bread. After
his retirement, he worked at Smith’s Supermarket for 10 years. He was a
lifelong member of Columbus Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday
School teacher, deacon and church treasurer. He served as the mayor of
Columbus and a town councilman for 23 years. He was a founding member of
the Columbus Fire Department and was a member of the Polk County Jaycees and
Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by a son, Bobby Ormand and wife Janet of Columbus; three
daughters, Lou Odel and husband Bruce of Mill Spring; Laura Ormand of
Columbus and Patsy Robinson of Greenville; a sister, Martha Foy of Columbus;
grandchildren, John Odel and wife Tonya, Kayla Edwards and husband Eli,
Nikki Ormand, John Robinson and wife Caitlyn and Danielle Robinson; great
grandchildren, Gracie Edwards, James Odel, Joshua Odel, Caroline Edwards and
Max Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Ormand; four brothers, James,
Charles, Allen and Harold Ormand and two sisters, Helen Foster and Evelyn
Ramsey.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel conducted by Rev. Bobby Capps, Rev. Lee Hubbard and Rev. Robert Orr. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.
