Tryon Fine Arts Center announces fall amphitheater line up

Hiroya Tsukamoto is a one of a kind composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan. He will perform at TFAC Sept. 17.
Tryon Fine Arts Center announces the fall line up for the Peterson Amphitheater, opening Thursday, September 10. The season, generously sponsored by The Plume Family Foundation, will feature diverse musical and theatrical offerings.
Thursday, Sept. 10, 7 p.m.: Tom Fisch is a seasoned award-winning performer with pure and seamless acoustic instrumentation who draws on traditional folk and country. His music, influenced by Doc Watson, James Taylor, the Byrds as well as John Prine and Dave Mallett has been recorded by many artists, including The Oak Ridge Boys. A favorite throughout the eastern US, Tom connects to his audiences with the warm, appealing style, diverse range of material, and the talent he brings to the stage.
Thursday, Sept. 17, 7 p.m.: Hiroya Tsukamoto is a one of a kind composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan. In 2000, Hiroya received a scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music and came to the United States. Since then, he has been performing internationally including several appearances with his group at Blue Note in New York. JazzReview.com says of this award winning musician, “…chops, passion and warmth. Zealously recommended.”
Thursday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m. Jim Peterman Quartet including Mack McCloud on guitar, Moss Mack on saxophone and Tim Blackwell on drums. Peterman, who has lived in Tryon since 1994, is a music veteran, and was the original keyboardist for the Steve Miller Band, playing his Hammond B3 organ with Miller, guitarist James Cooke, bassist Lonnie Turner, and drummer Tim Davis.
Thursday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. Playwright Catherine Gillet directs a staged reading of her new play “Joe & Angie.” A witty and touching piece of work, the play tells the love story of this comical and quirky couple with a talented cast lead by Patti D’Arbanville and Elvin Clark.
Sunday, Nov. 1, 3 p.m. The Series goes out on a funky pop note with Asheville’s own LYRIC. With an enlightened mixture of pop, soul, funk, and bowties, LYRIC awakens an undiscovered spirit within their audience. Described by many as the best band in Asheville, the five-member band delights crowds across the region. “Whew, lordy people, if you haven’t heard of or heard LYRIC, you simply must give yourself the gift,” says Peggy Ratusz. This performance is sponsored by Polk County Community Foundation’s Community Matters free events grants program.
Amphitheater events are open to the public, with admission by donation. Refreshments and CDs will be available for purchase. This season is being generously sponsored by The Plume Family Foundation. The LYRIC concert, on Nov. 1, is sponsored by a Polk County Community Foundation’s “Community Matters” free event grant and donations are not accepted.
