Polk County High School’s varsity football team might be back at full strength when the Wolverines visit the North Henderson Knights this evening in game two of the season for both teams.
As of press time, it was not known whether Josh Chupp or Chandler Patrick would be good to go this evening. Chupp is expected back. Those decisions were to be made Thursday.
Each team is 1-0 (both in non-conference play) going into tonight’s 7:30 opening kickoff.
Last week, Polk overcame a 13-0 deficit to defeat Chase, 23-13. Also last week, North Henderson came from behind, executing a 75-yard drive, to stop T.C. Roberson, 14-7.
According to Wolverine Head Coach Jamie Thompson, “What they (the Knights) do, they do well. They have a quarterback who can run and throw. He’s not super fast, but he’s quick.”
“And,” Thompson added, “he can be sneaky.”
Thompson also pointed out that North Henderson middle linebacker, Cole McCarson (#54), is a worthy opponent. The other side of that coin is that the Wolverines’ defense last week was nearly flawless, with Chase scoring both its touchdowns shortly after recovering Polk fumbles.
“They’re a good team,” Thompson said of the Knights.
However, Thompson said if the Wolverines play to their potential, they can win the game. He added that “they (the Knights) think they have the better team. I expect a great game.”
Does the out-of-town location mean much?
“Our kids have played well on the road,” Thompson observed. I expect to take a big crowd up there.”
