The Polk County Film Initiative (PCFI) announced today that “Harry & Snowman” has been set to screen as a feature film at the Tryon International Film Festival Oct. 9 and 10. On hand to speak about the film will be the film’s executive producer, Karin Reid Offield.
Written and directed by Ron Davis, “Harry & Snowman” is a feature length documentary that tells the remarkable life story of show jumping legend Harry de Leyer, affectionately dubbed the “Galloping Grandfather,” whose career was launched by his famous show jumper Snowman.
Snowman was an Amish plow horse which Harry rescued off a truck bound for slaughter. Approximately two-years of age, de Leyer rescued Snowman and rose to become a national show-jumper of the late 1950’s and 1960’s. Snowman was a unique discovery for anyone who has ever dreamed of discovering a horse of a lifetime.
With the film submission deadline only two weeks away, PCFI has received more than 40 films from around the world including the U.S., Canada, India and France. Last week alone PCFI received six films.
Films that are being received via the recommendation of other filmmakers, FilmFreeway and those who have approached PCFI directly, are quickly populating the competition categories which include: Best Short, Best Documentary, Best Student Film and Best Feature. Additional films under review have originated from Iran, Egypt, Poland, Stockholm and Russia.
Several producers, directors, actors and cinematographers have confirmed their participation in industry break-out sessions which are scheduled for multiple locations around the town of Tryon, including TFAC and the Depot Room. Anyone who has an interest in how films are conceived and developed will find these breakout session quite interesting. Sessions under development include cinematography, acting, casting, voice-over and film production. Gala events which include speakers, food, dancing and entertainment are also on tap for a spectacular one of a kind film festival in the heart of Tryon.
