Sybil Bitting

“Granny” Sybil Westbrook Bitting, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015 in Autumn Care of Saluda.
Born in Polk County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Walter D. and Linnie Hendley Westbrook. Mrs. Bitting was the widow of Stan M. Bitting, who passed away in 1991. She was a lifelong resident of Polk County. Sybil was a member of the VFW auxiliary #9539 Spartanburg, SC. She was a member of Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are two sons, D.H. Mickey Lanford (Brenda), Reggie D. Lanford (Nancy); a daughter, Fonda L. Allen, daughter-in-law Norma Fagan, all of Green Creek, N.C. Also surviving are four step-daughters, four step-sons, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and numerous step-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Larry Fagan, a grandson Kevin Lanford, and a granddaughter Andrea Diane Lanford.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 in Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren with Rev. Earl Byers, Rev. Craig Scruggs, and Mr. Tarrence Randolph officiating.
