The Upstairs Artspace’s Literary Open Stage has enjoyed guests from all over the region this year, and the group of local writers is pleased with the expansion. The next Literary Open Stage at the Upstairs’ Underground, will take place Friday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. This spoken word event is held at the gallery every second Friday of the month.

Writers of all forms are invited to share their work, including original fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. Those who would like to participate should arrive between 6:30 and 7 p.m. to sign up for a slot. Please limit your reading material to a maximum of ten minutes.

As the literary population in the foothills of North Carolina grows, so do the crowds at the Literary Open Stage. Previously a quarterly event, the Upstairs now hosts writers coming from as far as Asheville and Greenville on a monthly basis. There is also an established group of local scribes from Saluda, Tryon, Columbus, and the surrounding area.
