IGA employee Monica Levister feeds a kudzu leaf snack to one of 20 Kiko goats delivered mid-June to the two-acre lot beside the grocery store in Tryon. In 2013, the Pacolet Area Conservancy, in partnership with the Town of Tryon and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, received a grant from the Polk County Community Foundation through their Kudzu Eradication Initiative. The goats have worked on the kudzu-covered site twice a year, for three consecutive years. This is their third, and final, year on the job. The goats are joined by Reba, an Anatolian Shepherd, who is at the site to protect the goats. (Photo by Claire Sachse)
