Robert E. Edberg, III, 85, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015 in his home.
Born in San Mateo, Calif., he was the son of the late Robert Edberg, II and Mildred Edberg Blanchette.
He was a veteran serving in the Army in Germany during the Korean War. After having worked over 30 years for Capitol Records in Hollywood, Bob retired to grow and sell old garden roses and rose books at his company, Limberlost Roses. It was there in the rose garden of his grandmother’s house, that his love for roses, in particular antique roses, was born. He was an accomplished and well-known Rosarian, where he was a member of The American Rose Society. Bob was a great educator on the subject of old garden roses. He also published 5 volumes of the “Encyclopedia of Antique Roses,” a project that he dearly loved, and an educational tool to all lovers of old garden roses. He was an expert chess player, and loved playing with his friends at the Tryon Chess Club. Bob was a life member of the United States Chess Federation. He was a good and honorable man, a credit to his generation.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen M. Edberg; a son, Robert E. Edberg, IV (Sherril Miller), and a grandson, Steven A. Edberg. Also surviving are his wife’s family, Carol Gilbert, Rod Gilbert, Sylvie Gilbert, and Christopher Zaccalini.
